Reading Israel teaches the method behind the Israel Brief and Vantage across four recorded modules you work at your own pace: how to handle an Israeli or Middle East security event in the first 24 hours — source it, verify it, date the footage, separate what you know from what you are guessing — and write it up as a decision-grade assessment. You finish having shipped one real assessment — on a live event you pick, or on the frozen event packet we supply and grade exactly the same — in the format Mitzpe publishes, read and graded by a real instructor.
Who it's for
You read the Israel Brief and want to do what it does. You work in finance, policy, risk, or corporate security and need to read a regional event before the desk consensus forms. You cover a contested beat and cannot afford to be the reporter who ran the recycled clip. The prerequisite is short and honest: curiosity, and the time to do the assignments — roughly three to four hours a week. No clearance, no intelligence background, no Hebrew or Arabic required.
The four modules
- 1Reading the eventWhat a security event actually is, what the first hours look like, and where the reliable signal sits in the noise. You leave with an event to track: one you pick, or the frozen packet we supply.
- 2Sourcing and verificationWorking across Hebrew, Arabic, and English sources — no fluency required; monitoring the channels where events break; verifying combat footage, dating recycled clips, and flagging suspected fakes before they burn you.
- 3From evidence to judgmentSeparating what the record supports from what you infer, assigning confidence honestly, and making a probability call you can defend.
- 4Writing the assessmentBottom-line-up-front structure, sourcing discipline, and the confidence language that lets a decision-maker act on your page. You submit your assessment for a grade.
Four recorded modules, worked at your own pace. You carry one event across all four to a graded assessment; a real instructor reads two of your submissions — a mid-course checkpoint and your final — and writes back.
